For ambulance, Call 9-1-1 or 1-800-872-1111

MCA Call Center

When you call 9-1-1, your location is displayed on our computers and help is sent immediately. Once paramedics are on their way, our dispatchers give medical instructions to the caller and gather information to relay to responders. All of our dispatchers are licensed EMS professionals with additional certifications as emergency medical and fire dispatchers.

In addition to sending ambulances on emergencies and assisting 9-1-1 callers, dispatchers:

  • maintain ambulance coverage throughout our service area
  • schedule nonemergency ambulance transportation
  • track progress of all transports

MCA strives for the shortest response times by strategically placing our ambulances throughout our service area using computer-aided dispatch (CAD). As ambulances respond to calls, the CAD continually updates its screen and indicates the best locations for other units.

Another tool we use is predictive deployment. Using past data on calls and traffic patterns, our system predicts future call activity so that dispatchers can position units closer to the next emergency.

To improve deployment, call information and GPS routing is sent wirelessly to a mobile computer in the ambulance. Our system uses the State of Michigan MPSCS radio system which provides wide area coverage and interoperability with other public safety agencies.
